Welcome back, students, to the start of a new semester and congratulations to all who have successfully demonstrated their commitment to learning as evidenced by your first semester report card. Keep up the excellent work. Special congratulations to students who achieved honor roll recognition.
New Faces on Campus
Please join me in welcoming two new teachers who have recently joined our Kawananakoa ohana. Mr. Anthony Lee teaches Special Education English grades 6-8 and Mr. Ian Waterman-Reilly teaches grade 7 English classes.
Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Visitation
The second semester will be a busy one as we prepare for our WASC accreditation visit during the last week of February. The accreditation process involves an in-depth self-study and is a valuable part of ongoing efforts for school improvement that focuses on student achievement and support.
Beginning with the month of February and running through May, we will begin to administer various State assessments: ACCESS (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State) for students who are English language learners, HSA (Hawaii State Assissment) Science for 8th graders, and the SBA (Standards Based Assessment) which is administered to all students.
Parents may help support their child during the assessment periods by making sure that their child enjoys a good night’s sleep and receives a nutritious breakfast. These assessments are very important and we ask that parents schedule any trips during the school spring break and ensure that students are present and on time for school.
Once again, thank you for your continued support and let’s all look forward to another productive semester focused on success!
