~KMS UPDATE KMS UPDATE KMS UPDATE~
Aloha KMS Ohana,
First and foremost, in this great time of need, please keep yourself and your family safe and healthy. Though this may be a time of need, your child’s learning and growth is still a priority for us as educators. Please support our distance learning plan as much as possible. You can continue to stay up-to-date as the situation continues to develop by checking the Kawananakoa Middle School and DOE websites:
Here is the most recent memo from Superintendent Dr. Kishimoto (March 24, 2020)
As stated in the memo by our superintendent, school facilities will be closed until at least April 30th. KMS understands that learning is important and our teachers are dedicated to developing distance learning opportunities for students. Please review and speak with your child about HIDOE’s Technology Responsible Use Guidelines for expectations for online etiquette. https://www.hawaiipublicschools.org/DOE%20Forms/FRL/TRUG.pdf The internet and its various platforms can be the most powerful tool for learning, but it does come with great responsibility and respect towards others. Please support us by monitoring your child’s usage and communications. Proactively seek out and communicate with other adults at Kawananakoa as different needs arise.
For questions about:
|A class, assignment, or resource||Contact your child’s teacher
|A social-emotional concern||Contact your child’s assigned counselor

|A technology-related problem/issue||Contact Kawananakoa’s Tech Support:

In addition, we would also like to get a better understanding of the students and families that we are supporting. Please take the time to complete this survey about technology in your home. Given these uncertain times, we would like to know what tools the students have access to. Please complete the survey by Tuesday, March 31st. If you have more than one student at KMS, please fill out more than one form.
Thank you for your continuous support. Please know that we will share as soon as updated information becomes available.
|Dear KMS Ali’i Warriors,
We are presented with an opportunity where we become experts at 21st century skills through distance learning. As distance learners, we want you to continue practicing our 3 R’s…
If you have WiFi access at home, go to the following website for online resources:
Extended Enrichment Opportunities:
If you do NOT have WiFi access at home or a device (iPad, laptop, desktop, tablet, smartphone), read whatever is available at home (newspaper, magazines), keep a journal and write daily, write a letter to your teacher or to Mrs. Victor about your experiences, draw, build things from recyclable materials at home, and let your mind be CREATIVE!
Important to remember to not only take care of your mind but to take care of your physical health by practicing good hygiene (washing hands), healthy food choices, sleeping, drink water, going outside to take a break and play/exercise.
We will be sending more information out shortly to share with you assignments to help enrich and extend your learning. Stay tuned!!!
From your KMS teachers
