we need your help directing cars on the school campus 
during this year’s promotion ceremony on Wednesday  5/30 from 7:30 am to 10:00 am.

8TH GRADE PROMOTION CEREMONY and BANQUET REMINDERS

Kawananakoa Middle School 8th graders who will be participating in the
Promotion Ceremony and Banquet on Wednesday, May 30.

should be helpful as you join us on campus for this final student event.

KMS eICON STUDENTS RECOGNIZED BY GOVERNOR IGE

Governor and Mrs. Ige, along with Ms. Kim (eICON coordinator), extended 

their best wishes for success to the KMS team of Jun Jie Huang, Paul Legaspi, 
Matthew Fujioka, Johnathn Le and Anson Liang  as they represent the U.S. 
in the 8th Annual eICON World Contest to be held for the first time in Hawaii 
on the UH Manoa campus.

Last year’s team from KMS, traveled all the way to South Korea for this prestigious
international mobile apps development competition and proudly brought home
outstanding 2nd Place honors.

Go Ali’i Warriors – you make us proud!

YEARBOOKS
 were distributed to students on  Wednesday, May 23
during AA class. Mahalo to Ms. Yanity and her yearbook student staff
for creating such a wonderful book of Kawananakoa MS memories.

REPORT CARDS – 4th quarter report cards will be mailed to each
student’s home address early in June.  If your child has had a change of
home address, please contact our main office (808) 307-0300 as soon
as possible or email our registrar at aric_oumi@notes.k12.hi.us.

BOX TOPS – And the winning AA Class is…
Mr. Mew’s AA
 class  won the  Box Tops competition  and enjoyed a
delicious pizza party!  Thank you to all students, faculty and staff who
brought in their clipped box tops to help raise funds for book purchases.

KMS UNIFORM T-SHIRT DONATIONS

Has your student outgrown their KMS t-shirts or has no use for them
as they move on to high school?  Please bring gently used and laundered
t-shirts to the school main office to be used as loaner uniforms for students
who need them.    We especially need medium and larger sizes.  Mahalo!

BRAT FREE-DRESS DAY – Tuesday, May 29

Congratulations to all students with no Behavior Referrals, Absences,or 
T
ardies during the month of  February.  These students will be awarded a
free-dress sticker which must be placed on the back of their ID card.

Free-dress day students are not required to wear their KMS uniform
t-shirt, but must still adhere to the KMS dress code (see page 10 of
the Student Planner). Again, congratulations for displaying good
behavior and perfect attendance.

KMS TRAVELS TO JAPAN

Twelve KMS students along with teachers, Mr. Chin and Mr. T. Lum,
will be traveling to Uwajima, Japan to visit our sister school, Uwajima
Minami Junior High School from May 25 through June 6.

Participating  7th grade students are: Hailey Facuri, Jacie  Lee, Trislyn
Maeda 
and Logan Otani.

Participating 8th grade students are: Cody Chen, Dylan Chen, Jordan Fong,
Julia Hutchison, Abigail Kiyosaki, Brendan Kuwabara, Tyler Kuwabara, 
and
Tatiana Rillera.

SUMMER SCHOOL – NO MEAL SERVICE AVAILABLE

The school cafeteria will be closed for the summer.  Summer school
students are advised to bring a home lunch/snack.

 (English Language Learners) – “Thank you so much families 

for donating supplies to our classes AND for donating your time and energy 
in supporting our school through participating in our many school activities 
and fundraisers.”

Mr. Hosoda (Vice Principal) – “KMS Ohana, thank you very much for allowing 
me to be part of the Kawananakoa Middle School family for this year.  It was an 
honor and privilege working with all of you.  I can’t believe how fast this year 
went by.  May you all have an incredible summer!”  

Ms. Shaw
 (Special Education) – “I am excited to attend National Educators
Association 
(NEA) this year by representing Hawaii State Teachers Association
(HSTA) in Minneapolis.  Good bye to my 8th grade students Kalvin, Logan,
Matthew, Shirley, Tiffany and Tyler. You will be missed!”

Mr. Soares
 (Special Education) – “I would like to thank everyone who welcomed
me to Kawananakoa for my first time teaching on island. It has been an incredible
adventure. Mahalo.”

Ms. Ullian 
(Math) – “Students, I hope you have a wonderful and safe summer!”

Ms. Yasui (PCNC) – “The year went by so quickly, because of the many, many
accomplishments of our students that we were able to celebrate.  Thank you 
to everyone for supporting excellence in our school.”
