PTSA Market Day/STEAM Showcase2:15 to 7:00 pm – PTSA Market Day is a fundraising event to include
food trucks, crafts, fashion and food booths. Click on the PTSA link for
5:00 to 6:30 pm – STEAM Showcase will celebrate some of the
outstanding work produced by our students in all academic and
artistic disciplines including S cience, T echnology , E ngineering,
the A rts and M ath. Enjoy the bright spots of achievement and
creativity on display. SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT (SBA) TESTING continues on Monday, April 23 through Wednesday, April 25. Students will be on a modified bell schedule on the Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays of the remaining
two weeks of testing.

A MESSAGE FROM KMS PTSA – Dave & Buster’s Power Cards
In order for the KMS PTSA to continue to support our students and teachers
with events like Students’ Movie Night, Parents’ Cybersecurity presentation,
Campus Beautification, Career Day, as well as provide equipment and supplies
for the classroom, PTSA must raise FUNDS! The Power Card order forms and
Pick up your order on April 27 at the KMS Market Day.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL (SCC) invites parents to send in nominations
(with the nominee’s consent) or volunteer themselves for the parent or alternate
positions on the SCC for next school year 2018-19. The SCC meets once a month
on a Monday evening, from 5:00 pm in the school library. Please see the school
website kawananakoams.org for more information about the SCC.
All nominations must be received by Monday, April 23 in the school main office
or email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please provide your name, who you are
nominating (including yourself), and your email address and phone number.
MEAL ACCOUNT POLICY
According to DOE Policy SP 46-2016 , unpaid meal charges should not exceed
the cash equivalent of seven days of lunch. Therefore, students who pay full
price cannot exceed a negative balance of $25.20 . Students who pay a reduced
price cannot exceed a negative balance of $4.90 . Additionally, students who
receive free lunch cannot exceed a negative balance of $5.50, which is the cost
of a second meal. Furthermore, schools will disallow the charging of a la carte
or extra items, such as extra milk or snacks, by any child with a negative balance.
To deposit money into your child’s lunch account, please bring a payment (cash only)
to the school main office (Bldg A, 2nd floor) and fill out a meal deposit form. An
office staff member will write a receipt for the payment.

KMS SUMMER SCHOOL information booklets and application forms are
available now in the school main office (Bldg A, 2nd floor).
Completed and signed forms along with full tuition payment in check
or cash, must be received by Monday, April 30. Please follow the
registration procedure as noted in the registration booklet.

A CALL FOR HELP! May 18, Friday, from 12:30 to 2:00
Parents, guardians and other family members of our KMS ohana who
would like a chance to help our students in the classroom, here is a
Team 8B teachers ( Mr. Chin, Mr. Fahy, Mr. Hankins, Mr. Lum and Ms.
Ullian ) have planned an exciting interdisciplinary unit about fisheries for
their students. The teaching team needs adult volunteers on Friday,
May 18 from 12:30 to 2:00 , to guide students through some of the
hands-on activities such as throwing fishing nets, tying fishing knots and
making fish prints.
If you are interested in helping with this Team 8B activity, and even
learning a little about fisheries yourself, please contact Mr. Chin at

TEACHERS’ WISH LIST – Help our teachers, help our students
Ms. Ishida is planning for her summer school arts & crafts class. She
requests origami folding paper for her summer session students.
Ms.Turbeville ( Speech Team) requests four to six folding or stackable
stools or chairs for the speech team’s practice room.
Ms. Teixeira (Counselor) requests new or slightly used board games and
other quiet activities like Lego building blocks to promote positive
social interaction in her classroom.
