KMS SCIENCE STUDENTS FEATURED ON THINK TECH HAWAII
View the YouTube video of two of KMS’ shining stars,  Johnathan Le and 
Anson Liang, as they discuss how they used Arduino (open-source electronics 
platform) as the basis for their State Science and Engineering Fair projects.
Anson and Johnathan, who were featured guests on Think Tech Hawaii, did an
outstanding job of explaining, their passion for science and learning, their science
projects and their upcoming participation in the e-ICON competition.

KMS SOCCER TEAM – Go Ali’i Warriors!
Coming off of a win over Stevenson Middle School, our 
KMS Soccer Team
will compete in their last tournament of the season at the King Intermediate
Futsal tournament this Saturday, May 12, from 8:15 am to noon.  Please join 
coach, Channing-Marie Galutira, and her players at this fast paced and exciting 
sports event.

HAWAII STATE ASSESSMENT – 8TH Grade Science Testing (2nd Opportunity)
8th graders will continue HSA Science testing on Monday, May 14 through Thursday,
May 17.   Please help us ensure that your child does well on the test by having them
get sufficient rest the night before, encouraging them to eat a nutritious breakfast 
and making sure that they come to school on time.  Mahalo

NEW STUDENT MEAL ACCOUNT SYSTEM – EZSchoolPay.com 
Parents, please use the new meal account system EZSchoolPay.com to make 
payments to your child’s meal account and monitorthe account balance.

If you are unable or prefer not to use this online system, direct payments 
in cash only, may still be brought to our school main office (A bldg, 2nd floor).

Reminder: Students should bring a home lunch if their negative meal balance 
cannot be cleared.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM OUR REGISTRAR
Any student who:

  • will be  attending a private school,
  • will be attending a public school outside of the Honolulu District,
  • will be moving to another island, the mainland or abroad,

during the next school year, should notify the KMS registrar immediately.

These students will receive a Request for Release form for  his/her parent to
complete.  During the last week of school, these students will receive a release
packet which they will need to take to their next school.

CYBER CAMP – FREE!  Apply Now! 
Applications for Summer CyberCamp are currently being accepted. Students 
will learn about  proper computer usage and cyber defense including protecting 
computers and computer networks from hacking.   

Students from last year’s class participated in the statewide competition of
CyberPatriot teams and earned second place state honors! 

Tentative schedule  for the camp:
Tuesday, June 12 – Friday June 15
8:00 am – 1:30 pm Tues – Thursday
8:00 am – 12:00 noon Friday

Monday, June 25 – Friday June 29
8:00 am – 12:00 noon

CyberCamp is FREE, and open only to KMS Students.  Students are expected 
to attend all sessions .  Students who are  also be enrolled in KMS Summer 
School Enrichment programs will be excused from their enrichment classes 
during CyberCamp days.  

Please see Mr. Hankins in K302 or Mrs. Miyata in K301 during non-class 
time for more information and application forms.

IMPORTANT REMINDER – STUDENT FEES and OBLIGATIONS
In order to participate in upcoming student events, student fees ($30) and 
other financial obligations (lost/overdue library and text books, negative 
meal accounts) must be paid in full and kept up to date.  Please come in to 
the school main officeto settle your account in  cash before the day of the 
student event.

REFLECTION – Our thoughts are with our local communities who were so
devastatingly affected by the recent floods and volcanic eruptions. Thank 
you to the many volunteers and first responders who tirelessly work to 
assist them.

Happy Mother’s Day to the many mothers and grandmothers 
of our Kawananakoa ohana.  Have a wonderful weekend.
