SO MUCH TO CHEER ABOUT! Congratulations to our KMS teams and their
faculty advisors for their outstanding preparation and effort that resulted in
recent special awards and recognitions:
- CyberPatriots – Three KMS teams took 1st, 3rd and 6th place in the
recent third round of competition in this national youth cyber defense
competition. The KMS team’s outstanding showing over three rounds
resulted in an impressive State 2nd place finish in the middle school
division. The teams will continue to compete with a goal of participating
in the national finals.
- Speech Team finished their season with a strong showing at the Hawaii
Speech League Middle School Division speech meet at Punahou School.
Earning 17 superior marks (out of 24 ballots) gave them an admirable
3rd Place finish.
- Math Team is currently working hard to prepare for the MathCounts
Chapter Competition on February 9. Eighth grader, Karen Li, led her
team in scoring at the recent Wahiawa MS scrimmage.
Read more about our super teams and their achievements in the next KMS
Quarterly Newsletter.
BINDER CHECK REMINDER – Friday, March 1, will be the last study hall binder
check for the 3rd Quarter. See below – helpful hints for using a calendar/agenda
which should be kept at the front of the binder.
TEACHERS’ WISH LIST – Help our teachers, help our students! Mahalo to the many
KMS families who continue to support KMS in the classroom.
Team 7A teachers (Ms. Guardino, Mr. Reed, Ms. Togashi, Ms. Yamane, Mr. Waterman-Reilly)
are in need of bottles of hand sanitizer.
DOE PARENT SCHOOL QUALITY SURVEY (SQS) forms were distributed to students
on Friday, 01/11 in AA class (in a white, window envelope). Please complete and
mail back the survey by March 15.
As part of our on-going school improvement process, we greatly appreciate your input
and feedback about our school’s progress in addressing your child’s learning.
Please complete the survey and drop it in the mail using the postage-paid envelope.
Your child will also receive an orange ticket that can be returned with your child’s name
and AA#, and your signature indicating your completion and submittal of the survey.
Please have your child return the orange ticket to the school office. This will qualify
your child for a small appreciation prize. Thank you very much for your participation.
BRAT FREE-DRESS DAY – Thursday, January 31
All students with no Behavior Referrals, Absences, or Tardy days during
the month of January will be awarded a BRAT-free dress sticker which must
be placed on the back of their ID card.
BRAT-free dress day students are not required to wear their KMS uniform
t-shirt, but must still adhere to the KMS dress code (see pages 14-15 of
the Student Planner). Congratulations to all students who continue to try to
display good behavior and attain perfect attendance.
